Chanting the holy names of God is the easiest sacrifice to offer.
We must keep in mind that it is the celestial beings, agents of the Lord, who provide for the vital needs of living beings: human beings, terrestrial and aquatic animals, and plants. No one is able to create what they need.
The food of a person influenced by virtue—grains, fruits, vegetables, dairy products, sugar, etc.—or that of a person influenced by passion and ignorance—meat, fish, eggs, etc.—cannot be created by them, nor can heat, light, water, or air, which are so indispensable.
Without the Supreme Lord, there would be no sunlight, no moonlight, no rain, no wind, etc., and no one could live. Clearly, our life depends entirely on the Lord's bounty. Even the many raw materials required in our factories (metal, sulfur, mercury, manganese, and many others) are provided to us by the Lord's agents so that we may use them wisely, to provide society with conditions favorable to spiritual fulfillment, which will lead us to the ultimate goal of existence:liberation from matter. This goal can be achieved by performing sacrifices.
But if we forget the purpose of human life and use the blessings provided by the Lord's agents solely for the pleasure of our senses, thus becoming increasingly mired in material existence, which is not the purpose of creation, we become “thieves” and must be punished by natural laws.
A society of “thieves” can never find its balance, for it forgets the true goal, the ultimate destination. It knows nothing of sacrifices and seeks only more material enjoyment.
However, the Lord in the form of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the Golden Avatar, introduced into the world the easiest sacrifice, “the glorification of Lord Krishna by chanting His Holy Names, Hare Krishna,” while respecting and applying the regulative principles of Krishna consciousness.
The Lord's devotees are free from all sin because they do not eat meat, fish, or eggs, but only food offered as sacrifices. But those who prepare food for their own pleasure feed only on sin.
Hare Krishna, hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, hare hare
Hare Rama, hare Rama, Rama Rama, hare hare
This sublime chant in Sanskrit means: O energy of the Lord, O Lord, source of all happiness, please make me your beloved servant, and let me serve you.
Krishna and Rama are the Names of God, and hare is none other than his internal energy, his energy of bliss.
