Are illnesses spiritual in nature?
In reality, the cause of all illnesses is spiritual in origin. And the major cause is forgetting our loving relationship with Krishna, God, the Supreme Person.
The soul, who loses all contact with God, forgets its own spiritual identity and indulges in countless material activities that entangle it in a web of karma. This karma causes suffering, and instead of turning to God to alleviate its pain, the incarnate spiritual being seeks material solutions, which unfortunately, in turn, lead to other karmic reactions, and therefore more suffering.
Over the course of countless lifetimes, incarnate spiritual beings have accumulated, through their thoughts, words, and actions, a significant amount of harm, sinful acts, or sins that bind them, and today they suffer the resulting misfortunes and suffering. Also, it is through pain or suffering experienced and felt that we diminish and erase our faults.
The material illnesses of the incarnate spiritual soul that each of us truly is are those transmitted by karma, that is, those that pass from the body the soul had in its previous life to the one in which it was reincarnated.
The material body is in reality the prison of the spiritual soul. We have forgotten this, but the fetus in the mother's womb, and then at birth, the being suffers. The body is the source of the suffering of the incarnate spiritual being. God Himself has said it: this material world is a universe of suffering. This is why, for millennia, He has asked us to return to His absolute kingdom, where suffering is absent and true happiness is real and permanent.
A divine law says: “What you have done, shall be done to you.”
In reality, any person who commits a criminal act, whether intentional or not, if they remain indifferent to the suffering felt by the victim, if they do not ask for forgiveness, do not repent, do penance, and turn to God, can escape the justice of men, and that of the Lord; they will suffer a severe punishment. The exact harm they inflicted on their victim will be done to them; they will be reborn with the same condition. If the victim had a disabled limb, was left blind, deaf, mute, or totally paralyzed, they will be too.
All those who believe they can alleviate their suffering by resorting to euthanasia are mistaken, because euthanasia or assisted suicide does not solve their problem; on the contrary, it shifts it to their next life.
Euthanasia, and humankind is unaware of this, does not alleviate the suffering of the incarnate spiritual being, because it actually causes the displacement of the physical, mental, and psychological difficulties and suffering of the incarnate soul into its future life, and it will have to suffer again in its future existence. Indeed, it will be reborn in the same conditions it experienced at the time of its death, and the physical handicaps it suffered will be reflected in its new body. From birth, it will continue to suffer from them forever.
