Is reincarnation a reality, and are we the cause of the misfortunes that befall us in our lives, and the suffering we endure?

Yes, reincarnation is a reality, and we ourselves are the cause of the misfortunes and suffering we endure. The evidence is all around us; some bodies bear the signs.

Another life begins after death; reincarnation is a reality, as these words of the Apostle Paul and Mahatma Gandhi prove.

“If only for this life we have hope in Christ, then we are of all people most to be pitied.” (The Apostle Paul)

“I cannot conceive of a permanent conflict between people, and, believing as I do in the theory of rebirth, I live with the hope that I will be able to embrace all humanity in brotherhood, if not in this life, then at least in another.” (Mahatma Gandhi)

We identify three types of existence according to the influence exerted by the three attributes and modes of influence of material nature: virtue, passion, and ignorance.

Thus, living beings can be classified as peaceful, feverish, and giddy; or as happy, unhappy, and somewhere in between; or even as virtuous, impious, and half-religious. We can deduce from this that, in the next life, these three kinds of material influences will continue to act in a similar way. The influence of the three attributes of material nature and its consequences are visible in this present life. For example, some feel very happy, others very unhappy, and still others somewhere in between. This is the result of past contact with the three attributes [virtue, passion, and ignorance. (By ignorance, we mean the absence of knowledge about God, existential truth, and spiritual knowledge)]. Given that these differences are evident in this life, we can assume that, depending on their relationship to the various attributes, living beings will also be happy, unhappy, or somewhere in between in their next life. The best course, therefore, is to detach oneself from the three attributes of material nature and to transcend their corrupting influence forever.

However, this is only possible when one dedicates oneself entirely to the service of love and devotion offered to God.
