This system of protection, which encompasses the entire society, is based on the traits that distinguish a civilization of accomplished men from that of animalistic men, however refined. It is strictly forbidden to kill a wise scholar, a cow, a woman, a child, or an elderly person.

Moreover, the slightest offense against them shortens the life of the guilty party.

In the present age, these principles are rarely observed, hence the considerable suffering endured by human beings. From the moment women, having been left unprotected, become corrupted, unwanted offspring are born. Furthermore, whoever offends a chaste woman will befall him in the form of a shortened life.

These are just a few examples of the Lord's uncompromising laws.

Lord Krishna sanctions the actions of every being, just as He assigns them their consequences.

The Lord, in His original form, also present in the hearts of all beings as the Supreme Soul, is also referred to as “eternal time.”

Eternal time bears witness to all our actions, good or bad, and makes us suffer the consequences of each one. It is useless to pity our ignorance regarding the root causes of our misfortunes.

We may not remember the misdeeds committed in the past for which we now suffer, but we must remember that the Supreme Soul, also called the Holy Spirit, is our constant companion, for He knows everything about our past, present, and future. And because this partial emanation of Lord Krishna sanctions the actions of every being, He also assigns them their consequences. He is the Absolute Master, which is why not a blade of grass can move without His sanctioning its movement, and through it, each of us.

Embodied spiritual beings are granted, each according to their merits, a certain degree of free will, and it is the misuse of this free will that leads to suffering. Holy beings, for their part, make just use of their freedom and are therefore considered worthy children of the Lord. Others, those who abuse their freedom, are thus exposed to the workings of eternal time and must therefore suffer various afflictions. The joys and sorrows of the conditioned soul are all predestined by eternal time. Just as misfortune strikes us without our having desired it, so too does happiness, which comes in its own time and place, without our having to seek it. The reason for this is precisely that our joys and sorrows are all preordained by eternal time.

In this respect, the Lord is neither friend nor foe to anyone in this world. Each person experiences joy or suffering in life according to the destiny they have forged for themselves through their interactions with others. Each person here below strives to master the material world, thus creating their own destiny through their efforts to achieve this, and under the ordering vision of the Supreme Lord.

Lord Krishna is omnipresent and knows the activities of each of us. Without beginning or end, He is also known as “Eternal Time.”
