Lust symbolizes the ignorance that keeps the being imprisoned in the material world. By indulging the senses, one may experience a certain form of satisfaction, but this false feeling of ephemeral happiness is ultimately the greatest enemy of those who experience it.
The Lord advises us to begin by controlling our senses, in order to overcome the greatest poison or enemy, lust, which annihilates the desire for spiritual realization and destroys the knowledge of the true self.
We are, in truth, the eternal servants and maidservants of Krishna, tiny fragments, infinitesimal particles, integral parts of His Divine Person. We are immortal souls, and not the material body in which we are incarnated.
Our sole function is therefore to serve Him with love and devotion. This state of consciousness is called “Krishna consciousness,” which we must absolutely develop as soon as possible, to attain its fullness and put it into action. Through Krishna consciousness, it is possible to control our material senses, mind, and intelligence.
Lust is at the root of the perpetuation of reincarnation. It compels the embodied soul to tirelessly undergo the cycle of repetitive deaths and rebirths, activated by the pleasure of the senses, from which we must protect ourselves.
It is the sexual act that is at the origin of the perpetuation of conditioned existence in this material world.
That is why Krishna, God, the Supreme Person, advocates celibacy and continence for all those who wish to break with this world of suffering and who desire to return to Him in His eternal kingdom.
Lord Krishna, God, the Supreme Person, recommends that to surely achieve this, we should keep Him in our minds. For this, He has given us the best remedy, the chanting of His Holy Names:
Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare
Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare.
This wonderful Sanskrit chant means: O Energy of the Lord, O Lord, O Source of all happiness, please make me Your beloved servant (Your beloved maidservant).
Hare is the energy of the Lord, Krishna and Rama are His Holy Names.
If we want to see all our difficulties, problems, and sufferings disappear, then let us surrender completely to Krishna, God, the Supreme Person, let us love Him, obey Him, do His divine will in all things, align our desires, plans, and interests with His, and serve Him with love and devotion. The Lord will grant us absolute peace.
