However, the people suffer more if they neglect God's laws and observe only human laws. For, imperfect by nature, whatever form of material conditioning they may find themselves in, even the most evolved human being can only create imperfect legislation.
God's laws contain no imperfections, and if people are instructed in them, what need do they have for relative legislation, created by opportunistic politicians, misguided in every respect? Human laws must always be modified, revised, but not those of God, since they originate from the Divine Being, who possesses supreme perfection.
The scriptural laws cited above were established by liberated souls, the pure representatives of God, in light of the various conditions inherent in each being. Adherence to these laws, which originate from the Lord, gradually leads the conditioned soul to free itself from the clutches of material existence. Nevertheless, each person is, by their very nature, an eternal servant of the Supreme Lord.
Thus, in the liberated state, they can serve the Lord with a purely spiritual love, and thereby enjoy an existence of perfect freedom, sometimes even in a position equal to, or even superior to, that of God.
In the conditioned state, on the other hand, in the material universe under the influence of maya, the energy of illusion, each person desires to dominate all other beings, a spirit of domination that prolongs and burdens their conditioning, until the day they surrender to the Lord and rediscover with Krishna their original state of eternal servant.
The Lord teaches: The self-serving person must be endlessly reborn and die in this world, and until they have cultivated their love for Me, it will be impossible for them to shake off the yoke of the laws of material nature.
The truly great person is the one who finds refuge in Me, in complete surrender, and who, renouncing all forms of worldly pursuits, lives according to My teachings.
Thus, the person who conscientiously fulfills the duties incumbent upon them according to their social class and spiritual level, but who neglects to cultivate their love for Krishna, God, the Supreme Person, is merely wasting their earthly life.
This is why the Lord recommends that we live according to His teachings, so that we may never be lost or confused.
In truth, if Lord Krishna, God, the Supreme Person, allows the incarnate soul that wants to go astray to slide to the lowest point of existence, it is solely to give it the opportunity to judge for itself whether or not it can be happy by misusing its independence.
Most incarnate souls, conditioned by material nature and the energy of illusion, languishing in the material universe, misuse their independence, so that they plunge into illusion and suffer life after life.
That is why the Lord advises us: Surrender yourself to Me, and I will take you under My protection.
