Why have we been plunged into oblivion?
Why do we no longer have any memory of God, of our true spiritual identity, of existential truth, and of all our past lives?
Krishna, God, the Supreme Person, tells us: I dwell in the heart of every being, and from me come memory, knowledge, and forgetfulness.
Krishna, God, the Supreme Person, in the form of the Supreme Soul, resides in the heart of every living being, every human being, every land and aquatic animal, every plant, from the blade of grass to the great tree, whose every action originates from him.
Each of them is a spiritual soul incarnated in a dense physical body of a particular form, according to its karma. Being confined within a material body, it is subject to the conditioning of matter, that is, of its physical body.
The incarnate and conditioned spiritual being forgets everything about their previous life and now acts according to the directives of Lord Krishna, who is the divine witness to all their actions. Thanks to the Lord, who grants them the necessary knowledge, as well as both memory and forgetfulness, they can begin to act in continuation of the deeds performed throughout their previous life.
Lord Krishna is not only omnipresent, but also “localized,” meaning that he is also present in the heart of every being as the Supreme Soul, also called the Holy Spirit, to whom he grants the fruits of their self-interested actions.
The living being is struck by forgetfulness as soon as they leave the body in which they resided until then, but in the next life, they nevertheless resume their actions under the guidance of the Supreme Lord, Krishna.
Although they forget everything about their past life, the Lord grants them the intelligence through which they can resume their actions where they left off in their previous life. But the conditioned being receives not only from the Lord, residing in his heart, the directives that will lead him to experience pleasure or suffering in this world. He also receives the ability to understand the Vedas, the original holy scriptures also called “the true gospel.”
Indeed, let him be serious in his desire to know true Vedic spiritual wisdom, and Krishna will grant him the necessary understanding.
Why is this?
Because each of them, perhaps all of them, individually need to know Krishna, God, the Supreme Person.
And the Vedic texts themselves confirm this. In all the sacred Vedic scriptures, the glories of the Supreme Lord are celebrated.
And through the performance of Vedic rites, discussions on Vedic philosophy and the worship of the Lord, through the devotional service offered to Him, one can attain this knowledge.
